Seventy years ago, the Penticton Vees jolted to the top of the hockey world.

On March 6, the Vees cruised past the Soviet Union 5-0 to claim the Ice Hockey World Championship in Krefeld, Germany.

Penticton was Canada's representative at the tournament after it beat the Sudbury Wolves to capture the Allan Cup.

The Vees, who were part of the Okanagan Senior Hockey League, went 8-0 at the global tournament.

Goaltender Ivan McLelland Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥” 22 years old at the time Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥” recorded four shutouts.

The tournament ran from Feb. 25 to March 6, and featured nine teams from across the globe.
