Former teammates Caden Price and Trae Johnson helped put the nail in Kelowna's 2024-25 season on Wednesday night as the Rockets fell 7-4 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
With the loss, the Rockets have lost 21 of their last 22 games and are now officially eliminated from playoff contention, sitting at 17-39-4-2.
Kelowna got off to a good start, as Levi Benson (8) and Hayden Paupanekis (22) scored within 63 seconds of each other to make it 2-0 halfway through the first period.
Lethbridge cut the deficit in half late in the frame when Brayden Yager potted his 25th of the season on the power play, assisted by Price
With the first 3:29 of the second period, the Hurricanes all of a sudden had a 3-2 lead as Tristen Doyle and Kash Andresen each scored.
But Kelowna responded 46 seconds later to knot the contest again when Benson scored his second of the game.
In the third period however, it was the former Rockets who took over as Johnson and Price both found the back of the net to make it 5-3 Lethbridge.
Owen Folstrom scored for the Rockets to make it a one-goal game but that's as close as they would get as the Hurricanes added two empty net goals late to make it 7-4.
Rhett Stoesser made 27 saves in the loss.
The Rockets will conclude their eight-game road trip on Friday, March 7 against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
