The multi Grammy, JUNO and SOCAN award-winning talents of Cuban-Canadian Alex Cuba are in concert Jan. 25.

The Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre Society (VDPAC) presents the singer, songwriter, producer and musician Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Cuba香蕉视频直播檚 mainstage performance is part of his 19-stop, 2025-26 North American tour, continuing to Whitehorse, the U.S. and ending in Mexico City on April 10.

In 2022, he won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop for Mendo as producer, artist and engineer 香蕉视频直播� his proudest achievement of the 20-plus awards and nominations he has received as an independent artist over nine albums.

Born Alexis Puentes in Artemisa, an hour outside Havana, Cuba香蕉视频直播檚 artistry is as far-flung as the place he settled and has lived for over 15 years: Smithers, B.C.

His music at once incorporates his roots and is a unique and accessible amalgam of styles, having collaborated with artists ranging from Jason Mraz to Ron Sexsmith (who played at VDPAC in September) and Nelly Furtado; and bringing together melodies, popsoul hooks and rock chords in songs 香蕉视频直播渢hat may seem to bear little resemblance to traditional Cuban form.香蕉视频直播�

A forward-thinking, indie-minded artist, Cuba has amassed a steadily growing following amongcritics and fans everywhere.

His musical evolution for years has been all about searching for the simplicity and soul in Cuban music香蕉视频直播攖aking apart the complex arrangements, mixing it with North American influences, adopting the melodic simplicity of pop music, looking to Cuban folk traditions for inspiration.

A decision to record all the instruments himself came to Cuba years ago when the making of demos for new songs and wanting to share that undeniable, distinctive personal sound.

His growing body of work defines a unique musical place in the Latin diaspora.

He has received four Latin Grammy Awards, including Best Singer-Songwriter Album (2015); Best Short-Form Video (Eres Tu, 2013); Best Tropical Song (Songwriter, 2012); and Best New Artist (2010); two JUNO Awards: World Music Album (2008 & 2006); two SOCAN Awards: Jazz World Music Artist (2012 & 2009); two Western Canadian Music Awards: World Recording of the Year (2013 & 2008); and one Indie Award: World Music Artist (2008).
