Team Switzerland celebrates after its forward Simon Meier scores on Dec. 31, against Kazakhstan at the 2025 World Junior Hockey Championships.

Simon Meier is on the board at the 2025 World Junior Hockey Championships.

The Penticton Vees forward scored a power-play goal in the first period of Switzerland's 3-1 win over Kazakhstan at TD Place in Ottawa on Dec. 31.

It marked the first goal of the tournament for Meier, who also represented Switzerland at the tournament during his rookie BCHL season in 2024.

With its win Tuesday, Switzerland will officially play in the tournament's quarterfinals, set to begin on Jan. 2.

A member of the Vees since last season, Meier has 16 points in 26 games in 2024-2025.

The 19-year-old helped Penticton reach the Fred Page Cup Finals in 2024, scoring nine goals and five points during the team's playoff run last spring.

Meier is one of seven current or former BCHLers to suit up at this year's world juniors, joining Canadian forward and Vees alumni Bradly Nadeau.
