As Canada prepares to celebrate its 150th year, a father and daughter currently ineligible to donate blood because of their new matching tattoos of a blood droplet will encourage others to make an appointment to donate on their behalf.
Paul Furrer made his 100th milestone blood donation in April, 2017. His daughter Christine Furrer began donating blood in 2012 at 17 and has already donated more than a dozen times.
To celebrate their many donations, the duo recently got matching tattoos. They will show their body art and share their story to highlight the vital role donors play in providing hope to patients in need of blood products.
National Blood Donor Week ran from June 11-17.
Canadian Blood Services observed the week by reminding people of the importance of their donation.
Approximately one out of every two Canadians will either need blood or know someone who will. You never know when you or a friend will need blood. But you can celebrate the four per cent of eligible Canadians who donate regularly and provide blood for everyone.
