Peachland香蕉视频直播檚 popular Wibit Water Park will see some changes in its lease agreement, following a recent council decision aimed at ensuring fair compensation for public space use.

At council香蕉视频直播檚 Feb. 25 meeting, district staff brought forward a plan to align fees more closely with Wibit operations in other Okanagan cities. In 2024, Wibit paid nearly $2,400 in lease costs in Peachland while paying $10,500 in Osoyoos and $9,900 in Penticton. For 2025, the fees are set to be $10,500 in Osoyoos and $13,000 (plus GST/CPI) in Penticton. Staff suggested Peachland is undervaluing its waterfront space.

After coming up with a new payment formula, staff determined that Wibit香蕉视频直播檚 fees for Peachland should be $6,264 for 2025. However, they suggested spreading out the increase over two years to make it easier on the operator. After that, the fee would go up yearly, with the previous year香蕉视频直播檚 cost plus a CPI adjustment. Wibit representatives stated that while they understood the need for the increase, they argued it was too steep.

Following discussions between the district and the park香蕉视频直播檚 operator on Feb. 27, to go over the financial impact of the proposed new fee, staff now recommend that the fee for 2025 be set at $5,536 with a two per cent annual increase for the five-year lease. The decision was reached after further research that determined Osoyoos was the most comparable community due to its similar population and waterfront setting.

The foreshore area where Wibit Water Park operates isn香蕉视频直播檛 owned by the district. It falls under provincial jurisdiction. The district holds a head lease agreement that allows it to manage activities within 200 meters of the shoreline, including leases for water parks, docks, and buoys.

Council is expected to decide on the new fee structure at its March 11 meeting.
