A wildfire reported on March 9 east of Princeton is currently under control according to the BC Wildfire Service.
The fire, which is listed as human-caused, is about 8.3 hectares in size and located off Old Hedley Road almost half-way between Princeton and Hedley.
A press release issued by the Upper Similkameen Indian Band stated that fire, located on band land, was unrelated from the cultural prescribed burn taking place in Hedley.
"These prescribed burns are carefully planned and managed by USIB and BC Wildfire Service to restore the land and reduce wildfire risk, whereas the Nine Mile IR wildfire was an unintentional ignition," said the USIB.
A fire that is considered held means that it under current conditions it is not likely to spread beyond its current boundaries.
Despite being unusual for this time of year, a wildfire can still happen and should be reported if spotted by calling 1 800 663-5555 or (*5555 from a cell phone).
