The Regional District Central Okanagan (RDCO) is encouraging residents to chip their natural Christmas trees after the holidays.
Trees can be dropped off at one of the many free locations.
They will be chipped and composted into a nutrient-rich compost called GlenGrow available at various locations, including the Glenmore Landfill.
All decorations and tinsel must be removed before recycling, including any plastic bags or other materials used for transporting.
The following drop-off locations are open from Dec. 27 to Jan. 31:
Kelowna:
- Cook Road Boat Launch (new location);
- Ben Lee Park (parking lot at Houghton Road);
- Glenmore Landfill (2710 John Hindle Drive).
Locations are open Mon. to Sun. from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and are closed Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1.
There is a three-tree limit and loads must be tarped.
West Kelowna and Peachland:
Westside Residential Waste Disposal and Recycling Centre (2640 Asquith Road).
This location is open Fri. to Mon. from 7:30 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. and closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
On Sat. Jan. 6, 2024, Peachland Fire and Rescue Service (PFRS) is offering Christmas tree chipping and disposal by donation for with proceeds supporting Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Trees can be brought to the Peachland Community Centre (4450 6th St.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please remove all decorations and tinsel from your tree.
For a minimum donation of $5, PFRS will come to your home and pick up your tree for disposal. Call 250-767-2841 or email fireclerk@peachland.ca for more information.
Lake Country:

Trees can also be cut into pieces and placed in your yard waste cart for pick up once collection resumes on Mar. 1, 2024.
Prunings and branches must not be larger than 5 centimetres in diameter and less than one metre long.
