For the second year in a row, Operation Duck Drop is coming to the Penticton Channel.
Rubber ducks will be dropped from Green Mountain Road and into the river on Saturday, May 25, as event organizers help raise funds for the Dragonfly Pond Society.
㽶ƵֱThe 2nd Annual Operation Duck Drop event will see more ducks, more volunteers and increased prizing this year, thanks to our new partnership with the BC Firefighters Burn Fund,㽶Ƶֱ organizers wrote in a statement.
A total of 2,000 ducks were dropped into the water in May 2023, with funds going back to the Penticton Indian Band and South Okanagan Similkameen Brain Injury Society.
The event also serves as a race, as people who buy rubber ducks compete to see whose can float down the Penticton Channel the fastest.
Last May, cash prizes were awarded to the individuals who purchased the three fastest rubber ducks.
Anyone who purchases a duck ahead of the event will be entered in a draw to win $10,000.
This year㽶Ƶֱs recipient of funds, the Penticton-based Dragonfly Pond Society, supports families with children aged birth to 18 years who experience developmental and/or physical medical challenges.
