By noon on the Day of Giving, May 15, more than $324,000 had been raised for the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation.
The goal is to reach $500,000 for advanced cancer care at the hospital and minimize patient travel to access treatments. Funds will be directed towards medical imaging, pathology, surgical oncology and innovation at Kelowna香蕉视频直播檚 hospital.
All funds raised on the Day of Giving will be matched dollar-for-dollar. So far, there has been 233 donations made from $20 to $5,000 by individuals and groups who have been impacted in one way or another by cancer.
From May 1 to 14, Pita Pit locations across Kelowna, $1 from all pitas purchased at Central Okanagan Pita Pit locations was collected be donated to the KGH Foundation.
Then on the Day of Giving, owner of the five Pita Pit locations Pavneet Singh, who is also the BC United candidate for Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream, dropped off a cheque for $10,000 to assist with cancer care.
Volunteers have lined Pandosy Street in front of KGH encouraging motorists to pull through make the shift drive-thru and donate to cancer care.
According to those at the event, the day has been filled with honking and cheering as residents support the cause.

The KGH Day of Giving supports the equipment and innovations needed to support advanced imaging, faster and more accurate test results, more effective and less invasive procedures, and enhanced patient care in Kelowna.
Since its inception seven years ago, the Day of Giving has raised almost $4.6 million in support of KGH and community health care.
