The West Kelowna Warriors were stuffed 6-3 by the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Saturday (Dec. 7) during the Teddy Bear Toss game at Royal LePage Place.
The Warriors trailed 3-1 after the first period, with Luciano Bruno scoring his second goal of the season for West Kelowna. Goaltender Dawson Labre was replaced by Jack Lisson less than five minutes into the second. By the end of the period, the Crusaders had extended their lead to 5-2, with Dylan Krayer netting his ninth goal of the season for West Kelowna.
Bruno scored again in the third period, marking his third goal of the season. However, an empty-net goal by Malachi McKinnon at 19:05 sealed the 6-3 win for Sherwood Park. The Warriors were outshot 26-25 and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
West Kelowna remains in eighth place in the BCHL Interior East standings with 25 points and a record of 9-11-5-2. The team heads to Penticton on Friday (Dec. 13) to face the Vees.
Half of the stuffed toys from the 17th Annual Teddy Bear Toss game will be handed out to local children in need by the Salvation Army, while the other half will be headed to local long-term care facilities and seniors homes by Stuffies for Seniors.
