As the saying goes, a two-goal lead is the most dangerous lead in hockey.
That proved true for the West Kelowna Warriors as they fell 3-2 in overtime to the Victoria Grizzlies on Friday night (Nov. 22) at The Q Centre.
After a scoreless first period, Ian Alonso scored his first career BCHL goal to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead early in the second period. The goal was assisted by Eliot Compton and Kelsen Podworny.
A few minutes later, the Warriors doubled their lead as Elias Callgren scored his first career BCHL goal as well, assisted by Simon Houge.
The Warriors were up 2-0 after two, despite Victoria firing 32 shots on net.
But the Grizzlies broke through in the third frame as Alex Hebblethwaite scored a power play goal at the 10:05 mark, followed by Seamus Latta's game-tying goal three and a minutes later.
Extra hockey was needed on Friday night and at the 7:53 mark, Anderson (Chase) Pirtle found the back of the net for the 13th time this season to complete the Grizzlies' comeback.
Warriors goaltender Jack Lisson was busy all night as he made 47 saves in the loss. Oliver Auyeung-Ashton earned the win for Victoria, making 33 saves.
West Kelowna (8-9-4-1) concludes its three-game Vancouver Island road trip on Saturday night as they take on the Cowichan Valley Capitals at 7 p.m. Victoria (12-5-3-0) remains at home and welcomes the Coquitlam Express to town with puck drop at 6 p.m.
