In the first of a home-and-home weekend series, the Sicamous Eagles took care of business, beating the Kelowna Chiefs 5-2 on Friday, Dec. 20.
The two teams exchanged first period goals as Maguire Nicholson scored his fourth of the season for Sicamous at the 4:55 mark but the Chiefs' Luke Rishaug, who was announced as the team's captain before the game, responded with his 12th goal this year, on the power play.
After already assisting on Nicholson's goal, the second period was the Austin Horbachewsky show as he scored twice for the Eagles, at 4:13 and 16:35 mark. It was his 11th and 12th goals this season. This second game came 22 seconds after Owen Miller scored his 11th goal of the campaign for Kelowna to briefly tie the game.
In the third period, Clayton Gillmore scored a power play goal to double the Eagles' lead and Hayden Evans added another goal for good measure.
The Eagles' Josh Missfeldt assisted on three of their five goals.
Kael Svenson made 28 saves between the pipes for Sicamous while Jedd Stybel made 24 saves in the loss for the Chiefs.
The two teams will play again on Saturday night, this time at the Sicamous & District Recreation Centre. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
