Vernon volleyball teams earn top-3 seeds to senior girls Valleys

Vernon Panthers, Seaton Sonics, Fulton Maroons finish one-two-three at senior girls Okanagan volleyball seeding tourney

Call it a hunch but there's a definite feeling the Vernon Panthers and Seaton Sonics senior girls high school volleyball teams will meet in a tournament championship before the season is over.

The teams are currently ranked No. 3 (VSS) and No. 4 (Seaton) in the recent B.C. AAA rankings, and both secured the top-two seeds to the Okanagan Valley championships, with the Fulton Maroons making it a Vernon trifecta, earning the third seed, following the Okanagan Interlock tournament hosted by the Panthers Oct. 25 and 26.

The Valley finals will be contested Nov. 15 and 16 in Kamloops.

Current bragging rights in the VSS-Seaton rivalry belong to the Cats, who defeated the Sonics 25-23, 25-22 in a see-saw opening draw match at the Interlock tournament Friday.

Seaton came the closest to knocking off VSS, which went 6-0 over the two days of competition, and did not drop a set.

Fulton fell 25-20,25-20; the eighth-seeded George Elliot Coyotes went down 25-13, 25-15; and against three Kamloops schools, VSS was in tough against the Sa-Hali Sabres, but pulled out a 25-22, 25-22 win. The Panthers defeated the South Kamloops Titans 25-15, 25-16, and defeated the Valleyview Vikings 25-15, 25-13.

Seaton's only blemish was the straight sets loss to VSS. The Sonics swept their other five games, beating Fulton 25-21, 25-19, George Elliot 25-15-, 25-23, Sa-Hali 25-16, 25-20, South Kamloops 25-10 and 25-22, and crushing the Vikings 25-5, 25-11.

The Maroons garnered the third seed to the Valleys by going 4-2, playing the most sets out of any of the seven teams. Fulton's four wins were all decided in the third set.

Fulton defeated South Kam 23-25, 25-16, 15-12; knocked off Valleyview 25-11, 19-25, 19-17; beat Sa-Hali 19-25, 25-23, 15-12; and scored a 26-24, 16-25, 15-11 win over George Elliot.

The Coyotes defeated South Kamloops 25-22,25-14, and Valleyview 25-9, 25-10, but fell 19-25, 24-26 to the Sabres.
