As the UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team takes a mid-season winter break, head coach Bobby Mitchell has been busy recruiting. He locked in two new combo guards, Nevena Nogic and Saige Parfitt, for the 2025-26 season.

Nogic is a five-foot-10-inch guard from Kamloops. She plays her high school ball at Sa-Hali, with club play at the Bball 4All Academy.

In the summer, Nogic finished as the leading scorer in the B.C. Champions league, while also nabbing all-star honours for the second straight year.

Back in 2022, the native of Serbia competed at her nation's U16 national team training camp.

Parfitt, a six-foot-one-inch guard/forward, joins the Heat from Reynolds Secondary in Victoria. Parfitt guided the Roadrunners to three straight B.C. Provincial Championships, including a fourth-place showing last year in which she took home a Second Team All-Star nod.

This year, Parfitt scored , a new career-high.

The two new recruits for the Heat will look to replace the impeding loss of fifth-year do-it-all forward Kelsey Falk, who has been a staple in the team's starting lineup for four seasons.

The Heat are 3-7 halfway through the season. Their next matchup is in Edmonton against the University of Alberta Pandas on Jan. 17 and 18.
