UBC Okanagan basketball teams fall in weekend double-headers

The UBC Okanagan (UBCO) Heat men's basketball team lost twice to the University of Fraser Valley Cascades (UFV) on Nov. 8-9.

They lost 80-66 on Friday night. Heat forward Lamine Conde of Montreal had 19 points and shot 7-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. Leon Schenker of Vernon contributed nine points and four rebounds.

Saturday's game was closer, with UFV winning 66-58. Three Heat players finished in double figures, including Imoudu Ibrahim of Calgary, who had a team-high 11 points in just 18 minutes of action, along with five rebounds.

The Heat have a 1-3 record and are in fifth place in the Pacific Division standings. They play at home to the Trinity Western Spartans on Nov. 15-16.

The UBCO women also lost their games to UFV. They dropped a 76-63 decision on Friday (Nov. 8). Kelsey Falk of Vernon and Lily Pink of Kelowna led the way for the Heat. Falk recorded her first double-double of the season and the 19th of her career, posting a team-high 13 points along with 10 rebounds.

Pink had 12 points and five rebounds while shooting 3-of-4 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. Rookie guard Kiana Kaczur of Kamloops chipped in with 10 points off the bench, her first time hitting double figures in her young Heat career.

The teams went to overtime on Saturday, with the Heat falling 84-75. Rookie guard Tsuzki Tsuzuki of Calgary finished with a team-high 17 points, including six in overtime, along with three rebounds and two steals. Lauren Foullong of Orangeville, Ont., added 12 points, while Pink hit double figures for the second-straight game, finishing with 11 points.

The womenÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s squad has a 2-2 record and sits in fourth place in the Pacific Division. They are back in action Nov. 15-16 with home games against the Trinity Western Spartans.
