Two Eagles duo Dean Claggett and Brandon Ortiz joined forces to win the the PGA of British Columbia's inaugural event of the season.
Two Eagles Academy head pro Dean Claggett and club champion Brandon Ortiz shot a best-ball round of 66 to win the Tournament of Champions on Monday at the Okanagan Golf Club.
With a 6-under score on the Okanagan Golf Club's Quail Course, Claggett and Ortiz edged out the Kelowna Golf and Country Club's Rob Anderson and James Casorso by two strokes.
"I think we played good as a team," said Ortiz. "We stayed really patient out there and just didn't really make a lot of mistakes... and when we did, we really made up for it."
Claggett said teamwork and attitude was the difference.
"More than anything, it was good teamwork," added Claggett. "I think too, when you go with a good attitude and try to have fun on the golf course, especially when you play with somebody for the first time in a competitive environment, it's a little bit difficult, but today we did a really good job of staying patient and had fun."
It was the first time Claggett and Ortiz had played together competitively, however their relationship dates back to 2005 when Ortiz began playing at Two Eagles. "We've known each other for a long time so today is was relatively easy to just go out and play," said Claggett.
Claggett took home the champion's cheque of $1,000, while Ortiz was awarded the amateur prize of a set of Srixon Z745 irons.
While Anderson and Casorso claimed second spot and the $900 prize, Russ Latimer and Ryan Redekopp of Black Mountain finished in a tie for third at 3-under and claimed $530 for their efforts.
