The Immaculata Mustangs senior girls soccer team celebrates their provincial championship win.

You can call them a dynasty; there's no other word that better describes them.

The Immaculata Senior Girls soccer team captured its fourth straight provincial championship trophy and the seventh in the past 10 years, winning the gold medal at the 2016 senior girls provincials, held June 2 to 4 in Prince George.

After going through the round-robin portion of the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record, the Mustangs entered the final four of the tournament as the only team outside of the Fraser Valley competing for the three medal positions.

In the semi-final Immaculata took on the top seed from the Fraser Valley in Credo Christian. It was a slow-tempo game where neither team was able to muster much offense and both squandered any half-chances as the game entered overtime and then a shootout. In an agonizing 10 round shootout, the hero for the Mustangs was Bliss Ducharme as she stepped up to send the Mustangs through to the final.

The final was a rematch of the 2015 championship game and featured the Mustangs taking on the Southridge Storm from White Rock. And it was almost all Immaculata from the start as Ashlyn Day lasered a shot into the top corner giving the Mustangs an early lead before Kate Johnson once again scored a pair of goals in the second half to seal the championship for the Mustangs.

Stephanie McCann was named the Tournament MVP, while Johnson was awarded the Golden Boot as she led the tournament with nine goals. Other notable performances were from Nicole Hart who backstopped the team to four straight shutouts, and to the defensive corps of Ashley Prehofer, Grace Miller, Ducharme, and Stephanie McCann who worked tirelessly in front of their keeper. Coaches also credited the midfield duo of Ashlyn Day and Teaghan Wallace for outstanding play throughout.

The MustangsÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥”ranked eighth coming into the tournamentÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥”were perfect through the round robin portion of the event, closing out the round robin by taking on top seeded Glenlyon out of Victoria, a team that has been Immaculata's chief rival for the past 10 years. Johnson scored a pair to beat Glenlyon 2-0.

The Mustangs opened the tournament with a 5-2 win over Pemberton as the goals were scored by Teaghan Wallace, Celina Matte, and Johnson with three.

In a 6-0 win over Northside Christian goals were scored by Stephanie McCann, Johnson (2), Katarina Routley, and Ashlyn Day (2).

The win marked the fourth Provincial Championship in a row for the Mustangs Sr. Girls Soccer team, and the seventh in the past 10 years. The Mustangs semi-final streak also continued this season as the Mustangs have reached the provincial semi-final in each of the 11 years the program has been in existence.

Other team members that travelled to Prince George are Denver Dionne, Celina Matte, Hannah Slade, Alexa Bruschinsky, Francesca Drummond, Antonella Feeny, Mikayla Holroyd, Emma White, and Malia Thompson.
