Kelowna skaters bring hardware home from Victoria

Three gold medals highlights Super Series Victoria Day Interclub competition for Kelowna Skating Club

Emma Bulawka won a gold medal in the novice women's division at the Super Series Victoria Day Interclub competition.

The Kelowna Skating Club made a strong impression at the Super Series Victoria Day Interclub competition over the long weekend.

In all, 27 local skaters traveled to Surrey to compete at the first event of the new season.  The KSC showed its strength and depth, in winning a total of 15 medals.

The highlight of the weekendÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s event occurred in the Novice WomenÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s division, as 13-year-old Emma Bulawka captured gold with a personal best score of 108.14 points.  She opened with a 5th place short program finish, but stormed back to win the overall event thanks to a clean free program that included 3 triple jumps.

Another highlight occurred at the Pre-Novice level, as 12-year-old Daria Carr won both segments of group 1 and finished with a score of 91.98 points, which was over 18 points higher than the second place finisher.

Meanwhile, KelownaÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s Vienna Harwood won group 2 of Pre-Novice, while Maya Rose won the silver medal in group 3.

The local team also showed strength at the lower levels, as Kiera Atkins and Katie Jones finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in group 2 of Pre-Juvenile Women under 11.

At the Juvenile level, 10-year-old Malayna Lesko had a personal best score of 30.28 points to take the gold in group 1, while Emily Sales finished 3rd in group 2.

At the Junior level, Olivia Gran landed 6 triple jumps to finish 2nd in the free program, followed by Mckenna Colthorp with the bronze.  A day earlier, Colthorp and Gran finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the short program segment.

Rounding out the medal wins were Gabrielle Jugnauth (silver, Star 4 Girls), Rachel Pettitt (bronze, Senior Women Short), and Lauren Viau (bronze, Star 4 Girls)
