Kelowna foursome medals in Taipei

Martial artists from Kelowna win medals in tae kwon do at International Children's Games.

Four young Kelowna athletes reached the podium at the International Children's Games this week in New Taipei City.

Charlize Clarke won a gold medal, while Andrew King Michaela Dreger and Brenden Nichol each won a brozne in tae kwon do competition.

Clarke, 14, who trains out of Kees Tae Kwon Do under coach Sam Kilmartin, won the gold in the girls' 63 kg category.

Clarke defeated a Swiss opponent in a close final, 20 to 18.

Dreger, 13, won bronze in the girls 68 kg, while Nichols, 15, won bronze in the boys 64 to 68 kg class, and King, 15, took bronze in the 63 kg and under division.
