Maple Ridge Major Leaguer Tyler O'Neill is off to a scorching start in his first season with the Baltimore Orioles, including a record-extending opening day home run.

He has now hit a long ball on six straight opening days, extending the streak against the Toronto Blue Jays, and making his MLB record harder to reach.

He set a new mark last season Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ the previous record for consecutive opening day home runs was four, shared by Yogi Berra, Gary Carter and Todd Hundley.

The record for career opening day home runs is eight (not hit consecutively), and that is a mark shared by Ken Griffey Jr., Frank Robinson, and Adam Dunn. O'Neill will have a shot at joining that elite company.

Swinging a hot bat, O'Neill has ripped eight hits in his first 14 at bats this season for a 0.571 batting average. In Baltimore's home opener on March 31, he made headlines with four hits, making a great impression on his new team's fans.

The Garibaldi Secondary Grad was drafted in the third round by the Seattle Mariners in 2013, and is now in his eighth season in the Majors. Last season was one of his best, as he stayed relatively injury free, got in 411 at bats, and blasted 31 home runs.

In December, the free agent parlayed that success into a three-year contract with the Orioles, worth a reported $49.5 million.
