Letter: Egos take over Kelowna tourist centre decisions

Other cities operate their tourist bureaus out of much smaller, rented locations. So what is the real justification here?

To the editor:

Do people realize how big 5,000 sq.-ft. is? Even though it is on two floors, the proposed Tourism Kelowna building planned for our waterfront is 300 sq.-ft. bigger than a basketball court. Have you ever walked into a gymnasium and seen how big a basketball court is?

I wonder how many brochures and maps that much space can hold?

It seems to me that there must be a few plush lakefront offices planned for the executive in there somewhere.

All other cities referenced by Tourism Kelowna to justify this decision operate their tourist bureaus out of much smaller, rented locations. So what is the real justification here?

As a member of the yacht club confided in me regarding their imposing building on our waterfront, the management and directors got rather carried away by their egos.

Likewise Tourism Kelowna.
