OPINION: Winter Solstice is one of the best days of the year, for this reason

There's a silver lining to Dec. 21 each year

Get ready for sunnier days!

Saturday, Dec. 21 is the Winter Solstice and it's one of the best days of the year.

But why you ask? I'll tell you.

Besides the holiday season, everyone knows the winter stinks for the most part. It's cold, it snows, it's dirty, driving is more difficult, there's not a lot of positives. (You can tell I'm from the Lower Mainland because I didn't bring up the rain.)

But there is one thing that makes it the best day of the year.

Today, the sun will rise at 7:54 a.m. and go down at 3:59 p.m., making it the shortest day of the year.

After Dec. 21, each day starts getting a little bit longer. There is a little bit more daylight each day and that's what helps me get through the winter.

Congratulations everyone, we did it! Before we know it, the days will be filled with sunlight for the majority of the day.

(FYI, the summer solstice is one of the other best days of the year. Even though the days get shorter after that, the day with the most sunlight is absolutely one of the best.)

Happy Holidays everyone!
