Quick action from a bystander helped save two people and their dog after falling through the ice in Kalamoir Regional Park.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue was called to a park access point on Collens Hill Road just before 3 p.m. Jan. 13.

While en route to the incident, a bystander jumped into action to assist in the rescue which the fire department said increased the possibility of a successful outcome.

Fire crews helped warm the pair before transferring them into the care of BC Ambulance Service.

The West Kelowna Fire Department is reminding people to take caution around ice and cold water. Advice includes keeping pets leashed when near bodies of water, follow posted signage, wear a personal flotation device, and let someone know where you are going.

If you witness someone fall through the ice immediately call 911 and watch the person until help arrives.
