Road work in West Kelowna will have an impact on traffic over the next few months.

The bridge over MacDougall Creek on Shannon Lake Road in West Kelowna will be replaced this summer says the city. And that will mean the well-travelled section of road will be closed for several weeks.

Motorists are asked to plan their new route in anticipation of this closure.

Construction on the $975,000 project will begin Monday, July 10 and is expected to continue into October. Replacement is necessary as the bridge is at the end of its useful life and the new bridge will increase the load-bearing capability to ensure all emergency vehicles can use this section of Shannon Lake Road.

During the recent flooding of the creek, the bridge was closed to traffic for several weeks.

The timing for construction within the creek is determined in conjunction with BC香蕉视频直播檚 Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.

Motorists and cyclists are asked to use Old Okanagan Highway to access Highway 97 during the closure.

Pedestrian access over MacDougall Creek will be maintained as much as possible during the closure but some intermittent closures of the pedestrian bridge will be necessary.
