Candles will be lit in Vernon in continuing support of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Canadian Congress Thompson Okanagan branch will host a candlelight vigil Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 5 p.m. at Vernon City Hall to mark 1,000 days of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
A few days after the vigil, Ukraine and the world will mark the anniversary of the Holodomo genocide of 1932-33. The Ukrainian World Congress wants to draw attention to the historical parallel between the two events.
"As part of our global advocacy campaign Remembering the Holodomor 香蕉视频直播� the genocide of Ukrainians continues, we must remind the world of the horrific crimes committed by the regime of Kremlin dictator Joseph Stalin against the Ukrainian people in the 20th century," said Ukrainian Canadian Congress in a release.
"Similarly, Vladimir Putin香蕉视频直播檚 Russian regime, as the Soviet Union香蕉视频直播檚 successor, continues to carry out genocidal acts on Ukrainian soil today."
The Thompson Okanagan branch said the 1,000 days "reflect not only Russian aggression, but also the remarkable resilience of the Ukrainian people."
Ukrainian communities and organizations worldwide haven been invited to share stories of civic advocacy, volunteer efforts and support, as well as expressions of gratitude to those who have provided refuge to Ukrainians fleeing the war.
