Vernon children's store closes, rallies to continue in community

Rising costs and decline of sales are among the many reasons why the community-based consignment store had to close its doors.

Little Plum Children's Boutique has been a popular downtown Vernon shop among families for over five years.

Locally run consignment store Little Plum Children's Boutique and Cafe has closed its doors.

Camille Hivelin and Nara Straw, who own the store, have struggled to keep it afloat since January, citing inflation, the cost (and lack) of parking, and a significant decrease in sales.

The shop across the street from the Vernon Towne Theatre has been operating since 2019.

A rally event for the shop is being held on Monday, Nov. 25.

"We are hoping to create a new non-profit or community contribution company supporting young families and offering clothing, child care and more," said Sarah Anderson, who is assisting with Little Plum's efforts for a new company.  "We are seeking input on how to structure the new organization at the rally."

The rally will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Prestige Lodge Cabana Bar and Kitchen.

"We hope to see as many people as possible at the rally," said Anderson, who shared the new company's mission statement: "To provide a safe space for families to share resources, info, time, and find friends to enrich each other's lives."
