SASCU Credit Union is helping dollars make sense with a new financial education program being offered free to members and the community.
In a Jan. 13 media release, the financial institution announced the new program that includes workshops, online videos, activities and other tools in keeping with SASCU's new brand purpose to "Raise the Shuswap."
"Money skills empower people to make financial choices with more confidence, wherever their starting point," SASCU's program coordinator and community lead Erin Stagg said in the release. "Whether it's learning how to budget, save or invest, there will be resources available for everyone."
The program will utilize two main tools, with the first being "It's a Money Thing." That includes an "entertaining collection" of videos and resources from Currency Marketing aimed at people just starting their money management journey, and includes a series for kids.
The second tool will be the Canadian Credit Union Association's "Each One, Teach One," that encourages peer-to-peer financial learning and support. Both initiatives will be used in workshops, shared on social media and in-branch to generate meaningful discussion about money.
"Our community's strength comes from its people, and by providing the tools for financial education, we are helping to build a stronger, more confident future for everyone in the Shuswap," SASCU president and CEO Barry Delaney said. "Empowering individuals with the knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions is an investment in the entire region's success and well-being."
Through partnerships with local organizations, this will ensure that financial knowledge leads to success for everyone in the Shuswap, with nine workshops already booked with schools and other community groups.
