Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are investigating a strange occurrence between three vehicles and a possible firearm.
On Monday, Feb. 3, between 8:15 p.m. and 8:25 p.m., the driver of silver SUV was heading northbound on Highway 97A north of Greenhow Road when they noticed a dark-coloured SUV behind them. A few minutes after noticing, a loud-bang was heard on the silver SUV, forcing the driver to pull over and inspect the damage. The silver SUV driver believed something was thrown at their vehicle.
When the driver of the silver SUV pulled over and was looking for any damage, the "dark coloured SUV pulled alongside and had a verbal interaction with the occupants of the silver SUV," according to RCMP. As that was happening, a second vehicle pulled up behind the silver SUV but never engaged in the interaction with their occupant and then "quickly departed" northbound. Once the second vehicle left, the dark-coloured SUV also left the scene.
"It wasnÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™t until the silver SUV reached its destination when the driver finally had to opportunity to inspect the damage," said Vernon North Okanagan media relations officers Cpl. Tania Finn. At that time, a single hole was noted in the rear driverÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s side which police believe is the result of a projectile from a firearm.
RCMP will continue their investigation and are asking anyone who travelled in either direction the area from 8:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. with dashcam footage or anyone with any information regarding the incident to please step forward by contacting the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP Armstrong office non-emergency line at 250-546-3028 with the file number 2025-548.
