A man was killed in a motor-vehicle collision that closed Highway 1 west of Salmon Arm.

At 10:47 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, Salmon Arm RCMP, along with BC Highway Patrol and emergency crews, responded to the collision in the 4100 block of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Initial reports indicate that an eastbound minivan crossed the centre line into the westbound lanes, colliding head-on with a semi-trailer, said RCMP spokesperson Corp. James Grandy in a media release.  

"Tragically, the male driver of the minivan succumbed to his injuries at the scene," said Grandy. "The semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries." 

The highway remains closed as police and the BC Coroners Service investigate.  

"Currently, the cause of the minivan crossing the centre line remains under investigation," added Grandy. 

Investigators are seeking witnesses who may have witnessed the collision or events leading up to it. Anyone with information may contact Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044.

DriveBC said detour routes are available, with light vehicles using Bolton Road to Tappen Notch Hill to Notch Hill Road and heavy vehicles moving through the Monte Lake cut off road to Highway 97.
