Happy Halloween!

While tonight should be filled with fun and candy, the Kelowna RCMP, fire department (KFD), and the city are reminding the public to take safety precautions so nothing spooky happens.

Trick-or-treaters

  • Trick-or-treat with a group or an adult;
  • Be visible. Wear bright colours or reflective gear, avoid wearing a mask that restricts your vision, and use a flashlight;
  • Only go to well-lit houses;
  • Have an adult inspect your treats before you eat them;
  • Cross the street at intersections or crosswalks and watch for vehicles;
  • Stay on sidewalks and pathways whenever possible.

Motorists

  • Slow down and drive with extra caution. Excited trick-or-treaters sometimes forget pedestrian safety rules;
  • Ensure that your vehicle lights are on as soon as dusk hits;
  • Be very careful backing up or exiting driveways;
  • Have a plan for getting home safely if you香蕉视频直播檙e planning on drinking or consuming drugs.

Homeowners

  • If you are welcoming trick-or-treaters keep your home and doorway well-lit and your pathways clear;
  • Put away your valuables. Make sure your bikes, tools, and outdoor toys are secured and out of sight;
  • Secure your property. Lock up your garage or shed, take all valuables out of your vehicles, and lock the doors and windows of your house.

The fire department would also like to remind the public that fireworks and firecrackers are not permitted.

香蕉视频直播淭here are very few urban centres in BC that still permit recreational fireworks,香蕉视频直播 said KFD Prevention Officer Paul Johnson. 香蕉视频直播淣ot only can they be dangerous to an inexperienced operator and those observing, but they also pose a significant fire risk with surrounding trees, grasses, and dry areas.香蕉视频直播

Fireworks can only be used by licensed operators through a permit process with KFD. Anyone caught shooting fireworks is subject to a minimum of a $250 fine.
