Almost a year after she announced she was seeking the Conservative Party of Canada nomination for the Vernon-Lake Country-Monashee riding, it's been confirmed Vernon city councillor Teresa Durning will have her name on the ballot.
"It's exciting! I am confirmed 'green lit' to run in our riding of Vernon Lake Country Monashee and officially be on the upcoming nomination ballot," Durning said in a statement on social media Friday, March 7.
Durning said the National Candidate Selection Committee voted to invite her to run for the Conservative nomination in the new riding that was created last year.
"It香蕉视频直播檚 a challenging time and more important than ever for members to vote for a candidate that lives in the riding, understands the issues and has the courage to stand up for the constituents," she said.
This does not mean Durning will be the candidate for the Conservatives in the riding, only that she can now run to become that candidate in the next federal election, which is slated for Oct. 20 but could be called earlier. Only Conservative Party members are eligible to vote in the nominee race.
The party's nomination period closed on Feb. 26. Others vying for the Conservative nomination are former Vernon Coun. Scott Anderson, Vernon business owner Rachel Enns, former MLA constituency assistant Min Randhawa and Kelowna radio host Toby Tannas.
