The West Kelowna Warriors started their preseason with a split against the Vernon Vipers and Cranbrook Bucks.
It was a good start for the Warriors as they shutout the Vernon 4-0 on Friday night (Sept. 6).
The score was deadlocked until late in the first period when Luciano Bruno scored for the Warriors to make it 1-0.
West Kelowna then exploded in the second period for three goals from Laz Giardina, Elias Callgren, and Dylan Krayer.
Krayer stood out for the Warriors on Friday night as he also had two assists, finishing with a three-point night.
West Kelowna goaltender Ayo Ogini stopped all 30 shots he faced in the win. Vipers' Sam Saskiw and Marco Bilic split time between the pipes in the game.
The following night, the Warriors were in Cranbrook, where they lost 7-3.
After being down just 1-0 after the first, the second period was a different story has seven goals were scored in the frame. The Bucks got four goals from four different players while Warriors' Jack Pridham collected a hat trick in the period, all three West Kelowna goals on the night.
Cranbrook added two more goals in the third period on their way to the 7-3 win.
This upcoming weekend, Warriors fans will get their first chance to look at this year's team as West Kelowna finishes their preseason at Royal LePage Place. They welcome the Penticton Vees on Friday night (Sept. 13) at 7 p.m. and Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
