After a long off-season, the Okanagan Sun are finally back in action this Saturday (July 20) as the British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) season begins.
Last season, the Sun made another great season, finishing 9-2 but their season came to an end when they lost 33-19 in the BCFC finals against the Westshore Rebels.
This year's team has some returning players as well as 30 new recruits to the team.
Head coach and general manager Travis Miller remains at the helm but the team has welcomed back a couple of familiar faces for their offensive and defensive coordinator positions.
The new offensive coordinator Mike Wolthuizen is a welcome addition back to the team. He's been coaching around Kelowna since 2009 for the Sun, Kelowna Secondary School, and Rutland Senior Secondary.
A former head coach of the Sun, Shane Beatty is back as the team's defensive coordinator. Beatty coached college football (NCAA) in the United States for 17 years (1997-2012) before becoming the Sun's head coach. In both 2014 and 2015, while coaching the Sun, he won the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) head coach of the year award. He now returned to the Sun after spending seven years with the Westshore Rebels.
The Sun open the 2024 on July 20 as they welcome the Langley Rams to the Apple Bowl. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
