It took a dramatic effort but Okanagan FC U-15 is off to the semi-finals at the Toyota National Championships in Quinte West, Ont.
After a 2-0 loss to Inter Halifax SC on Friday, Oct. 11, Okanagan went into the quarterfinals on Saturday with a 1-0-1 record.
In a winner-advanced quarterfinal on Saturday against CS Montreal Centre, Okanagan FC found themselves down 1-0 until late in the game, when Kieyran Ragoonaden scored in extra time to tie the game.
The game went to a shootout where through the first five rounds, both teams scored on each attempt.
It wasn't until bonus kicks, in the sixth round, when Aidan Carreon Sabatino made the first save in the shootout for Okanagan FC.
On Okanagan's turn, Maximo Trozzo, a player who was added to the roster just for the nationals, scored to help advance the team to the semi-finals.
The semi-finals take place at 11:30 a.m. Pacific (2:30 p.m. Eastern) on Sunday when Okanagan takes on Burlington Force SA.
