Not a wildfire: Burn piles may stir up smoke in Okanagan

Salmon Arm, Vernon and Kelowna planned and cultural burning begins

Several planned burns in the Okanagan are sparking a reminder for wildfire wary residents not to fret.

The BC Wildfire Service is conducting several pile burns, as early as March 3 in Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops.

Burning of 10 piles in Salmon Arm is also taking place at the Rappel base.

Supporting Westbank First Nations, an ongoing cultural and prescribed burn project covering up to 86 hectares, about 10 kilometres southeast of Kelowna. The target area for this year香蕉视频直播檚 burn will be approximately 41 hectares.

Smoke may be visible from Kelowna, West Kelowna and Lake Country, and to motorists travelling along Highway 33 E.

South of Vernon, a pile of wood debris will be burned at the Bailey Road Seed Orchard.

Smoke from the pile may be visible from Predator Ridge and surrounding areas, as well as motorists along Bailey Road and Highway 97.

There are also burns taking place near Kamloops at Pinantan Lake and near Merritt in the Nicola Lake area.
