Police are investigating a string of incidents involving a stolen white Ford F250 truck over the weekend.
The owner of the truck reported his pick-up stolen Sunday, March 2 at approximately 12:30 a.m. from the 3400 block of 16th Avenue in Vernon.
Approximately an hour later, at 1:30 a.m., police respond to an alarm at a business on Industrial Avenue in Lumby and discovered suspect(s) gained entry to the business.
Police searched the building; however, no suspects were located on scene and are believed to have fled.
A white Ford pick-up is reported seen leaving the area and is heading westbound on Highway 6 toward Vernon. Sparks trailing the rear of the vehicle are reported, making it quite noticeable.
Police patrolled the area and quickly established a coordinated response when the vehicle is located at College Way and Highway 97 in Vernon.
When police attempt to conduct a traffic stop with the vehicle, it flees from police; however, it is quickly located in a nearby cul-de-sac where it rams a police vehicle before it accelerates into an adjacent parking lot and through a fence.
Despite RCMP flooding the area in response, police were unable to locate the pick-up or the driver.
That is, until emergency crews are called to a vehicle fire at 3:15 a.m. in the 3500 block of Centennial Drive.
While the fire department was battling the fire, our officers canvased the area for potential witnesses or video surveillance of the incident.
said Cpl.Tania Finn, media relations officer. The fire is considered suspicious and police believe all these incidents to be related.
RCMP continue to investigate these incidents.
