A Kelowna forestry sector-related company is one of 12 in the province set to receive funds from the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund.

In Prince George on Wednesday, Jan. 15, the province's Jobs Minister Diana Gibson, along with Forests Minister Ravi Parmar announced $5 million for the province's manufacturing jobs fund, which will lead to around 100 forestry-related projects.

The funds will go toward seven forest-sector capital projects and five planning projects.

"These projects are supporting forest-product manufacturers to innovate their business lines and grow their operations, supporting a strong and resilient forest sector throughout B.C. that is focused on producing leading-edge, high-quality wood products and biomaterials," stated a B.C. government press release.

In Kelowna, Acutruss Industries Limited, which designs and manufactures engineered wood building components, such as roof and floor trusses, I-joists and wall panels is set to receive up to $100,000.

The money will help "support the purchase and commissioning of equipment to manufacture precision cut I-joists through automation, while increasing production and efficiency, and creating 12 new jobs," the release said.

Other companies to receive funds are in Penticton, Kamloops, Cranbrook, Fruitvale, LavingtonSurrey, Burns Lakes (x2), and Squamish.
