UPDATE: Excavator brought in to assist Kelowna fire crews at vacant house

Fire crews were called just before 1 p.m.

Update 5 p.m.

An excavator has been brought in to assist the Kelowna Fire Department at 200 Dougall Road South. 

The vacant house is a complete loss and is being torn down. 

A portion of Dougall Road South remains closed while work continues on exstinguishing the blaze. 

Update 3 p.m.

The Kelowna Fire Department responded to a fire at an abandoned property in Rutland just before 1 p.m.

The vacant house at 200 Dougall Road South was found to have smoke and visible flames coming from the roof. 

Dougall Road South has been closed to vehicles while crews action the structure. 

RCMP attended the scene. BC Ambulance Service was able to stand down and no injuries have been reported. 

The cause of the blaze is not known at this time.

Kelowna fire crews are on the scene after a fire at an abandoned home at 200 Dougall Road South in Rutland. 

Four fire trucks and RCMP are stationed at the home. 

Dougall Road south of Highway 33 is closed to traffic.
