Hope RCMP are looking for witnesses and/or information regarding a white pickup truck crossing the wrong side of Highway 1, near Hope, on Dec. 17.

Despite facing a high pressure situation Hope RCMP say drivers did all the right things after a white pickup truck crossed onto the wrong side of Highway 1 near Hope.

A 36 year-old man from Surrey is currently facing charges related to "dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, and driving while prohibited" after he failed to adhere to police and ended up driving his truck into oncoming traffic.

According to RCMP, on Saturday morning (Dec. 17) a BC Highway Patrol officer had been trying to get the driver to pull over for a speeding infraction eastbound by Laidlaw Road. The driver did not stop and used an emergency U-turn lane to drive into oncoming traffic. No one was hurt as the drivers, on the westbound lane, immediately slowed down and pulled over to avoid a collision.

Afterwards, RCMP located the pickup abandoned nearby and determined it was stolen. At 10 a.m. the police located the driver and he was arrested. The man first court appearance is on March 4, 2025.

Police are asking for witnesses or any information or dash-camera video about the incident. To contact the Hope RCMP call 604-869-7750 and quote file 2024-54453.
