Balmy temperatures have delayed the opening of outdoor skating rinks in the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, which hopes for a freeze in the new year.

Warmer temperatures have put a freeze on outdoor skating rinks for the time being.

In a media release, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) said "Mother Nature isn't being kind to ice skaters," leaving the opening dates for outdoor rinks yet to be determined. Due to the relatively warm weather the Shuswap has been experiencing, ice-making has not been possible so none of the rinks will be ready for use in 2024.

When the area finally does get a freeze, the CSRD usually builds outdoor rinks at the following locations:

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Farrell's Field, 5051 Meadow Creek Road, Celista;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Silver Creek Community Park , 1577 Salmon River Road, Silver Creek;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Parson Community Park, 3612 Hwy 95, Parson;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Sorrento-Blind Bay Park, 2670 Davidson Road, Sorrento.

"We hope that colder temperatures in the new year will allow the ice rinks to open," the release adds.

Updates will be posted to the page of the CSRD website.
