Vernon Nature Centre launches e-learning platform

The new learning tool will make it easier for students to be educated about nature

It is now easier than ever for students to learn about nature.

Launching on Thursday, Aug. 15, Vernon's Allan Brooks Nature Centre (ABNC) will be introducing their first ever e-learning platform.

The new platform is designed for teachers, parents and educators to help them educate children from Kindergarten to Grade 7.

"It is to help educate kids through a nature-based curriculum" said ABNC's marketing and sales coordinator Jordan Strachan. "It covers everything from local ecosystems to Indigenous ways of knowing."

Strachan explained that the material in the program comes from ANBC's own works, along with community-based information.

"Teachers can then acquire this package and they can have access to it which will allow them to integrate into their curriculum."

Strachan said that the system is expected to be changed when needed, to evolve it to the needs of the classroom over time.

"We are hoping for this to become a staple resource in not only Vernon classrooms, but across the province," Strachan said. "We want this program to be something that is inclusive for all peoples and to give greater access to nature based education and we are excited to bring nature back to the classroom."

The platform will cost $30 per grade level, or $60 for full access, through a yearly subscription model.
