Proprietor F.B. (Frederick Bainton) Jacques stands behind the counter of his business, Jacques Jewellers, in 1907. One of Vernon's oldest businesses, the longtime jewelry store closed for good on 30th Avenue 100 years from when the photo was snapped, 2007. The building today is the home of Victoria Lane Brides.

National Jewel Day Thursday, March 13, recognizes the makers and jewelers who create special pieces as keepsakes and memories.

In Vernon, one of the longest serving jewelry stores was Jacques Jewellers.

F.B. (Frederick Bainton) Jacques was a man who arrived in Vernon from Ontario in 1891 at the age of 26. He rented a storefront on Vernon's Main Street for a number of years before opening what would become the longtime location of the store with its name written in cursive above the entry Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Jacques Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ at 3122-30th Ave., in 1894.

The store stayed in operation with the Jacques' family and others for more than 100 years, closing for good in 2007.

The Museum and Archives of Vernon, which supplied the photo, has a full blog post on Jacques Jewelers, and can be found .

The building now houses .
