Kelowna United and KU/Junior Heat teams picked up the lionÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s share of victories last weekend in Thompson Okanagan Youth Soccer League action.
HereÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s a look at some of the highlights:
Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ U17/18 girlsÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥”Kelowna United defeated the Kamloops Blaze 3-2. With United down 1-0 just before the half, Michaela Jacobsen scored off of a nice cross from Ashley Kimler to tie the game 1-1. In the second half, Kimler notched a nice goal from distance, and Alexis Percival added another goal for Kelowna, as United hung on for the one goal victory.
Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ U17/18 boysÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥”Kelowna United downed Vernon 3-nil.
Noah Dueck scored in the first five minutes of the game to get United strated on the right foot. Mitch Sloan added two second half goals to help propel Kelowna to the win.
Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ U15 girlsÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥”Kelowna United (Greenhough) shutout Shuswap 2-0.
Tayshja Clark had to make some big saves early in the game to keep Shuswap from jumping out to an early lead. Eighteen minutes in,n Ashlyn Eisenkrein was able to kick in a loose ball after a scramble in front of the Shuswap goal. After Tayshja Clark made a key save on a penalty kick, Kelowna stretched the lead to two 30 minutes into the second half, as Eisenkrein scored her second goal of the game after taking a nice lead pass from Lindsay Goett.
Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ U15 boysÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥”KU/Junior Heat blew past Vernon 7-0. Patrick Donovan and Chris West each scored twice, with singles going to Justin Matte, Ethan Kersche and Miguel Ambosio.
Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ U14 boysÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥”KU/Junior Heat blanked Kamloops 5-0. Pietro Arrigoni scored a hat-trick, with Ethan Ramchuk and Tobin Woodworth also scoring in the win. Zach Shields and Kaden Kiewitz shared the shutout as the Heat start the season with three straight wins.
Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ U13 girlsÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥”The KU/Junior Heat defeated Kelowna United Team C 7-0. Shannon Rowe connected for three goals in the win, with other markers coming from Olivia Lawrie, Shae Taylor, Teghan McCormick and Paige Keeley. Makenna Allison posted the shutout.
Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ U12 boysÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥”In Game 1, the United Cobras took on Vernon. Two early goals by the opposition had the Cobras unbalanced making a comeback difficult and they battled valiantly to the end. In Game 2 against Kamloops, Kelowna approached the second game with pep in their stride and confidence in both offense and defensive plays, earning them a well fought out draw against strong opposition.
Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ U12 girlsÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥”Kelowna United U12 Hot Shots took on Kamloops. Ava Sowinksi, Ashtyn Clarke and Sofia De Pieri found the back of the Kamloops net in the first half. Kamloops continued to battle hard, however a solid performance by the Hot Shots defenders Rylee Gordon, Ashtyn Clarke, Daisy Janes and Ava Sowinski kept them from scoring. Ten minutes into the second half, Mykayla Zukowski rounded out the scoring for Kelowna, while Sara Sowinski and Sofia DePieri shared UnitedÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s keeper duties.
