Track and field athletes are ready to raise the bar on their game and purchase a set of hurdles.
Currently, the Vernon Amateur Athletic Association (VAAA) doesn't have any competition hurdles, which would allow it to host a sanctioned track mean.
"This means our world-class track facility cannot be the location for any high school Zone, Valley or full BC Athletics Club competitions," said Mike Stoll, VAAA president. "If we had a set of hurdles, we could host more frequent track meets and allow all athletes, whether they run, jump, wheel or throw, to compete right here in our city."
The VAAA is looking to change that by raising $15,000 to purchase a set of hurdles.
Currently, a Tru Earth fundraiser is underway where 20 per cent of the sales value of orders goes to the VAAA. Tru Earth is a Canadian-founded company in B.C. aimed at keeping plastics out of the landfills with washing machine sheets, and other products. Families, friends and community members are also invited to the All Comers Track Meet 13+ Competing Event Sunday, April 13, at the Greater Vernon Athletics Park.
"We're excited to kick off the season and showcase the talent of our local track and fielders," said Stoll. "This is a great opportunity to not only support the athletes but also to learn more about our club. We always welcome new athletes, volunteers, and sponsors to join us in building a strong community around track and field."
