Salmon Arm-Vernon flavour added to BCHL alumni game

Former Silverbacks and Vipers highlight alumni rosters for 3-on-3 game during BCHL all-star weekend in Shuswap

The first-ever player signed by the B.C. Hockey League's Salmon Arm Silverbacks will be there.

So will the kid from Sicamous, who captained the team in its second year.

Two other Salmon Arm products will play.

On the other side is a Stanley Cup champion, a TV analyst who won a national hockey title, and members of the rival Vernon Vipers, including one who has gone on to fame as a country singer. 

The BCHL has announced the rosters for the leagueÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s Alumni & Friends Game on Jan. 18 at Rogers Rink in Salmon Arm as part of All-Star Weekend, presented by .

The game will be 3-on-3 and feature a team of Silverbacks alumni facing off against a squad of BCHL alumni and special guests.

Silverbacks Alumni Roster:

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Andrew Ebbett -Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Nicknamed Hollywood by the fans in the team's inaugural 2001-02 season, Ebbett, from Vernon, played one season in Salmon Arm, scoring 45 goals. He moved on to the University of Michigan, then a 15-year professional career which included NHL stints with the Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, Phoenix Coyotes, and Pittsburgh Penguins before ending in Europe. Ebbett scored twice to lead Canada to a 6-4 win over the Czech Republic in the bronze-medal game in men's hockey at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics in Korea;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Adrian Veideman Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Played two seasons in Salmon Arm, wearing the C as captain in Year 2. He went on to play four years at the University of Denver, winning the national championship twice during his tenure. He played nine seasons professionally and was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team and First-Team All-Stars during his career;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Brendon Nash Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Nash spent two productive seasons in Salmon Arm (2004-06) before graduating to Cornell University where he spent another four years. After that, he played 10 seasons professionally, highlighted by a pair of NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens. He is the brother of former Silverback and longtime NHLer Riley Nash;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Cody Bostock  Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ From Salmon Arm, Bostock totalled 134 points in 209 games over his four-year BCHL career, which included stints with the 'Backs, Cowichan Valley Capitals, and Vernon Vipers. He then played four seasons at Bemidji State University in Minnesota;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Mike Puddifant Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ After a four-year BCHL career playing for four different teams (Salmon Arm, Burnaby Express, Nanaimo Clippers, Alberni Valley Bulldogs), Puddifant, from Salmon Arm, played for Westfield State University (NCAA Division III) in Westfield, Mass., for one season, He then played another three years at Calgary's Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT);

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Angus Redmond Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Redmond was a workhorse starting goaltender for the Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥˜Backs during his tenure with the team (2013-16). After one year of college hockey at Michigan Tech, he embarked on a five-year professional career. He is currently in his third season coaching back in Salmon Arm. He will be a skater and not a goalie during the Alumni & Friends Game.

BCHL Alumni Roster:

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Geoff Courtnall Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ After starting his junior hockey career in Cowichan Valley, Courtnall embarked on a 16-year NHL journey, scoring 30 goals on six separate occasions. He won a Stanley Cup with the Edmonton Oilers in 1988, and was a key part of the Vancouver Canucks 1994 playoff run where they made it to the finals. He returned to the BCHL after his playing career to coach the Victoria Grizzlies for two seasons from 2007 to 2009;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Chad Brownlee Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ After his two seasons with the Vernon Vipers (2001-03), Brownlee was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round. He played four years at Minnesota State University and one more professionally before trading in his hockey stick for a guitar. Since then, he has become a country music superstar, winning and being nominated for several awards over the years. Brownlee will headline a concert in Canmore, Alta., on Jan. 15 to kick off NHL Hockey Day in Canada festivities. Hockey Day in Canada runs Saturday, Jan. 18;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Kevin Kraus Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Kraus played parts of three seasons for the Vernon Vipers (2007-10) and won two Fred Page Cup championships. His best campaign was 2009-10 when he put up 27 points in 55 games. The California native stayed in the B.C. Interior, signing on as an assistant coach with the KIJHL's Revelstoke Grizzlies in 2011. He became their head coach and general manager in 2012 before joining the Silverbacks an an assistant coach in 2013.

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Chris Crowell Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Crowell spent four years with the Vernon Vipers (2005-09) and was team captain his final season in 2008-09, leading the team to their first of three straight BCHL championships, as well as the 2009 Royal Bank Cup national championship. After that, he played four years at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, two as team captain. His No. 18 jersey was retired by the Vipers in 2016;

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Dave Tomlinson Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ Tomlinson starred in the BCHL during his two seasons in the league (1985-87), which included helping the Richmond Sockeyes win the league title, and Centennial Cup national championship in 1986. He then went on to play four years at Boston University before getting his shot in the NHL for four seasons. He is now the colour commentator for the Vancouver Canucks on Sportsnet.

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥¢ Kip Noble Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ After one BCHL season with the Kelowna Packers (1985-86), Noble started an impressive college career with Michigan Tech University. He piled up 123 points in 156 games over four years and still holds several scoring records for defencemen at the program. Noble was inducted to the Michigan Tech University Hall of Fame in 2018. He returned to the BCHL in 2022-23 as an assistant coach with Salmon Arm for one season.

The goaltenders for the Alumni & Friends Game will be current Salmon Arm Silverbacks netminders Trigg Pimm and Daniel Dirracolo.

The Alumni & Friends Game will start at 6:30 p.m.
