SIx Okanagan teams now know their matchups for the upcoming senior boys provincial basketball championships.
The four tournaments (A, AA, AAA, AAAA) 16-team draws were released on Sunday night in a live hour-long show. The provincial championships will take place March 5-8 from the Langley Events Centre.
AAAA
The Mount Boucherie Bears out of West Kelowna was seeded eighth and will take on Coquitlam's Heritage Wood Kodiaks in opening round action at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
A win and a probable date with the top-ranked (and defending champion) Spectrum Thunder out of Victoria could await the Bears on Thursday.
Mount Boucherie is making their first appearance at the tournament in over two decades. The last time a school from West Kelowna made the championships was in 1985.
AAA
The Vernon Panthers (12th seed) have a date with the Wellington Wildcats (fifth seed) out of Nanaimo. The two cats will face off at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
Vernon got the only Okanagan berth in AAA and did it by eking out a one-point victory over the South Kamloops Titans in the Valley Championships on Saturday, Feb. 22.
AA
The quest for an undefeated season continues for the Summerland Rockets. The Rockets have won all 24 games in the season and are the second seed in the provincial championships. They face the Fernie Falcons at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Summerland has already beaten the number three seeded Collingwood Cavaliers this year, and the two teams, pending chalk in the bracket, would play again in the semifinals.
The Pacific Academy Breakers out of Surrey are ranked first.
A
Three teams from across the Okanagan valley have been sharpie'd into the A draw.
The Osoyoos Rattlers (10th seed) play the Sparwood Spartans at 10 a.m.
Kelowna's Aberdeen Hall Gryphons (eighth seed) battle the Houston Christian Wildcats at 6:15 p.m. Houston Christian is a tiny town 65 km south of Smithers.
Finally, the Valley champion Immaculata Mustangs from Kelowna will face Nanaimo Christian at 11:45 a.m. Ranked sixth, the Mustangs may face third seeded Unity Christian, who won it all a season ago.
