For the first time ever, a cricket tournament played out indoors in the city of Vernon.
The North Okanagan Cricket Club (NOCC) hosted the competition at the Vernon Toyota Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday, Jan. 25.
Featuring four teams, including one from Salmon Arm, the event brought players from across the North Okanagan together, with over 40 players participating.
The Vernon Strikers defeated NOCC in a hard-fought final. The Vernon Cricket Club and the Salmon Arm Cricket Club were also participating.
"This event further boosted Vernon as a cricketing destination even in the winter," said NOCC member Hashan Sirisena. "We are making headway in promoting the sport in the area."
Sirisena added that the NOCC is currently in discussions with the city of Vernon on developing a cricket field. The organization , looking for a suitable ground in North Okanagan.
