The Kelowna Rockets four game win streak was snapped by the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick, Washington Saturday (Oct. 19) night.
Michael Cicek (6) put the Rockets up 1-0 at 13:46 of the first period with an unassisted goal. The Americans tied it six minutes later as Jake Gudelj (1) put the puck behind Kelowna goaltender Jari Kykkanen.
Kelowna went on a three minute tear in the second period. Max Graham potted his third of the season, assisted by Tij Iginla and Ethan Mittelsteadt at 4:27 making 2-1 Rockets. Just over two mintues later Andrew Cristall put his team up 3-1 with assists going to Jakub Stancl and Kayden Longley. Graham (4) got his second of the night at 7:40 assisted by Cristall and Iginla making it 4-1.
Tri-City answered with two goals from Brandon Whynott (5) and Gavin Garland (5) to close out the second period, with the Rockets taking a 4-3 lead into the third.
The Americans struck early in the final frame with Cruz Pavao (3) scoring on the powerplay at 1:06 and Shuan Rios (2) at 3:44 giving Tri-City a 5-4 lead. Kelowna tied the game at the 7:12 mark on a goal from Jaxon Kehrig, assisted to Mittelsteadt. Max Curran scored at 11:44 giving the Americans the 6-5 win.
Tri-City outshot Kelowna 33/31 with Kykkanen making 27 saves. The Rockets went 0/4 on the powerplay.
Kelowna is in last place in the WHL Western Conference with eight points and a record of 4-6-0-0. The Rockets next game is
at Prospera Place against the Victoria Royals on Wednesday, Oct. 23. Puck drop is 7:05 p.m.
