For the second time in as many nights, the Kelowna Rockets fell to the Prince George Cougars on Wednesday.
The teams traded goals in the first period, started by Cougars' Viliam Kmec potting his 13th of the season 4:34 into the contest.
Nearly 10 minutes later, Rockets defenceman Will Sharpe responded with his eighth goal, and second in his last three games. The goal was unassisted.
Early in the second frame, Prince George got goals from Borya Valis (28) and Matteo Danis (11) in a span of 1:37 to make it 3-1.
The Cougars went on to extend their lead in the third period when Danis added his second goal of the game.
At the 6:37 mark of the period, Jacob Henderson made a memory he'll never forget as he put home his first career WHL goal for the Rockets to cut the deficit in half. Hayden Paupanekis assisted on the goal.
That's as close as Kelowna could get as Danis added an empty net goal to make it 5-2 and complete the hat trick late in the game.
Rockets goaltender Jake Pilon made 16 saves in the loss while Cougars' Joshua Ravensbergen made 23 saves in the win.
With the loss, Kelowna is 17-35-4-2 and has lost 17 of their last 18 games, collecting just four points in that span.
The Rockets are back in action to play game four of their eight-game road trip on Saturday, March 1 against the Red Deer Rebels (21-28-5-2). Puck drop is at 6 p.m. Pacific.
